Bridgestone/Firestone Sets New Standard
With The Industry's First H-Rated Mass Market Premium Tires

PHOENIX, Ariz. (Feb. 6, 2002)- Drivers are looking for enhanced performance from their tires. Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire, LLC (BFNT) is introducing the industry's first mass-market premium tire, which will provide "everything you expect in a tire." Now consumers can get the ride and mileage of a mass-market tire -- with excellent handling in wet and dry conditions -- an H-rated tire with premium features without the premium price.

The Firestone Affinity LH30, which will be available in 20 sizes, meets the growing demand for this new class of premium mass-market tire. It offers consumers new options in ride, handling, speed rating, and noise reduction at an exceptional price. The Firestone Affinity LH30 is an H-speed rated tire with a maximum speed capability of 130 miles per hour under laboratory-controlled conditions.

"We have watched the demand for speed rated tires continue to increase," said Shu Ishibashi, president, North American Consumer Tire Sales Group, and executive vice president, BFNT. "H-rated tires are being requested 12 percent more frequently as original equipment on vehicles by the automotive manufacturers. Bridgestone/Firestone wanted to establish a new class of tire to provide the H-rated performance while maintaining the benefits of a premium mass market tire -- the ride and mileage -- with the level of confidence normally associated with an H-rated tire. We believe the Firestone Affinity LH30 will prove to be one of the best values in the tire marketplace today."

The Firestone Affinity LH30 incorporates Bridgestone/Firestone's exclusive UNI-T® technology, which enhances wear, reduces noise, and provides better grip in wet conditions.

UNI-T® is an acronym for "Ultimate Network of Intelligent Tire Technology" found only in Bridgestone, Firestone, Dayton and select associate brand tires. One of its core technologies is a Computer Optimized Component System, CO·CS®, which uses a super computer to help determine an ideal combination of tread design, casing shape, materials and construction for a particular application.

Tires with UNI-T® have a special O-Bead® that eliminates overlapped joints in the bead assembly, affecting the way a tire interacts with the rim, and provides a rounder assembly for improved stability.

The use of L.L. Carbon®, or Long Link Carbon, an advanced form of carbon black, produces a stronger tire, better able to resist cracking, chipping, tearing and excessive wear.

The Firestone Affinity LH30 with UNI-T is available in the following 20 sizes:
