Announces Chief Financial Officer Appointment

CARMEL, Ind. (January 8, 2002) - BFS Diversified Products, LLC (BFDP) today announced that Wayne Hunter, 52, has been promoted to Chief Financial Officer effective December 1, 2001. In this position, Hunter reports to BFDP's Chairman, CEO and President, Robert McNally.

Prior to his appointment as CFO, Hunter served as Controller of BFDP's Firestone Building Products division since 1996. He began his career with the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company as a junior accountant at the Oklahoma City tire plant in 1971. He held positions of increasing responsibility at that facility and, in 1992, was appointed Controller of Bridgestone/Firestone, Inc.'s Wilson, N. C. tire plant (Bridgestone/Firestone, Inc. was the successor to Firestone).

"We are very pleased that Wayne has accepted this position," said McNally. "He will be a tremendous asset to BFDP as we work to establish our company's new structure and position it as one of the premier organizations in the Bridgestone/Firestone group of companies."

BFS Diversified Products LLC, based in Carmel, Indiana, is one of several newly established subsidiaries of Bridgestone/Firestone Americas Holding, Inc., and is the result of a reorganization of Bridgestone/Firestone, Inc. in 2001. BFDP is responsible for the non-tire businesses in the Americas formerly owned and operated by Bridgestone/Firestone, Inc., including the building and industrial products, synthetic and natural rubber, and fiber and textile businesses. BFDP's businesses lead their industries in innovation and market share.

Nashville-based Bridgestone/Firestone Americas Holding, Inc. is a subsidiary of Bridgestone Corporation, the world's largest tire and rubber company. Bridgestone/Firestone, through its subsidiaries, develops, manufactures, and markets Bridgestone, Firestone, Dayton and associate and private brand tires. The companies also produce Firestone air springs, roofing materials, synthetic rubber, and industrial fibers and textiles.
